Prayers
Prayer is so powerful. It's the way in which we connect to God and He speaks to us.
I have found it is meaningful to pray Scriptures from the Bible.
In this section, I am going to list various prayers that are based around Scripture or come directly out of Scripture.
Feel free to make them your own and customize them with your own names and needs.
Pray them for yourself or pray them for others.
Be sure to check out the actual Bible verses to see from where each prayer comes.

A Morning Prayer
November 15, 2015
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:23-24). Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Surely You desire truth in the inmost parts; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Create in me a clean, pure heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your Presence, O Lord. Do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me (from Psalm 51).
O Lord, I call to You; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to You. May my prayer be set before You like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. Set a guard over my mouth and over my actions, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips and over my tone of voice. Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with those who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies (from Psalm 141:1-4). Keep Your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression (Psalm 19:13). Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground (Psalm 143:10). May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer (Psalm 19:14).
My eyes are fixed on You, O Sovereign Lord; in You I take refuge (Psalm 141:8). Help me to throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles me. Enable me to run with perseverance the race that You have marked out. Let me fix my eyes on You, Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of my faith (from Hebrews 12:1-2). I am going to take a new grip with my tired hands and I ask that You strengthen my weak knees. Mark out a straight path for my feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall, but instead become strong (from Hebrews 12:12). I thank You that when I put my hope in You, my strength will be renewed. You will enable me to soar as on wings like eagles, to run and not grow weary, to walk and not grow faint (from Isaiah 40:31). Your grace is sufficient for me, for Your power is made perfect in my weakness. For when I am weak, then I am strong as Your power rests on me (from 2 Corinthians 12:9-10). Please strengthen me with all power according to Your glorious might so that I might have great endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to You, Father God, who has qualified me to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light (from Colossians 1:11).
May I speak with wisdom today, and may faithful instruction be on my tongue. May I be a woman who fears You, oh Lord (from Proverbs 31:26, 30). Help me to live my life each day so that above all, others see Jesus in me.

A Prayer for my Boys
November 20, 2015
Based on the following verses:
Psalm 139, Proverbs 28:13-14, Proverbs 30:5, Proverbs 1:7, Proverbs 3:5-6, Colossians 1:10-12, Philippians 1:6, Jude 1:24
Psalm 139, Proverbs 28:13-14, Proverbs 30:5, Proverbs 1:7, Proverbs 3:5-6, Colossians 1:10-12, Philippians 1:6, Jude 1:24
Oh Lord, I praise You because my boys are fearfully and wonderfully made. You have searched them and You know them; You are familiar with all their ways. You have ordained all their days; I know that You will fulfill Your purposes for them. I ask that they always fear You, Lord, and that they honor Your with their finances, their words, their bodies, and their lives. May their hearts always be soft toward You. Keep them from living in sin, but when they make sinful choices because of their humanity, I pray that they'll confess and renounce those sins with a humble and sincere heart rather than try to conceal them. In doing so, may they experience your grace and mercy . I also pray that they take responsibility for their choices instead of trying to justify them. May they always be truthful and respectful, not only to us and other authority figures, but especially to You. May they learn to fear You and be blessed; may they never harden their hearts toward You. Show them the beauty of Your Word. May they come to realize that every word of God is flawless and that You are a shield to those who take refuge in You. As they learn to fear You, grant them knowledge, wisdom, and discipline. In wisdom, may they approach all of life from Your point of view. May they gain Your wisdom by remaining in Your Word. Give them a hunger for Your Word, an understanding for Your Word, and may they learn how to apply Your Word. May Your Words always remain in them. May they always yield their hearts and minds to Your Holy Spirit. Through their whole lives, may my boys learn to trust in You, O Lord, with all their hearts and to not lean on their own understanding. In all their ways, may they acknowledge You and may You direct their paths. May they live a life worthy of You, O God, pleasing You in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in Your knowledge, being strengthened with power according to Your glorious might, that they may have great endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to You, Father God, who has qualified them to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. I am confident that since You began a good work in them, You will be faithful to complete it.
Now to the One who is able to keep us from falling, and to cause us to stand, rejoicing without blemish before His glorious presence, to the only God our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time and now and for all eternity. Amen.
Now to the One who is able to keep us from falling, and to cause us to stand, rejoicing without blemish before His glorious presence, to the only God our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time and now and for all eternity. Amen.
A Prayer of Declaration and Surrender
February 3, 2020
Based on the following verses:
Isaiah 61, I John 2:20, Isaiah 54:17, Genesis 50:20, Ephesians 1:17, Isaiah 42:6, Isaiah 43:19, I Timothy 6:16
Isaiah 61, I John 2:20, Isaiah 54:17, Genesis 50:20, Ephesians 1:17, Isaiah 42:6, Isaiah 43:19, I Timothy 6:16
I declare that my God has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness. I ask that the Spirit of Jesus rush over me that I may walk in His anointing. I declare that I do indeed have an anointing from the Holy One. I declare that no weapon formed against me will prosper. I declare that what the enemy intended for evil, God means for good! I am believing God for a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. I declare Your Spirit to be in charge of my life, a spirit of revelation and of power. The former things have taken place and I declare that You have new things for me! Break through, Jesus, break through! All these challenges in my life have again driven me to You! I declare a victory over the darkness. Loose my mouth; free me from any chains that are trying to hold me back! I declare that You have gone before me and You make a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland! I will walk in the freedom and power of Your Holy Spirit, not just today, but every day, declaring the awesome power You have poured out, filling me afresh with Your Spirit. Praise You, Jessu! I surrender myself to You, fully and unconditionally. Use me however You will to make an impact on people's lives for eternity. I love and praise and adore You, Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords, Who alone lives in unapproachable light. To You be glory, honor and praise, now and forever into eternity. Thank You Jesus. I will walk in Your power and Your might and Your strength today. In the mighty Name of Jesus I pray, Amen!
A Prayer for Tough Times
March 14, 2020
Based on Psalm 29, 30, and 31
In You, O Lord, I have taken refuge. You are my Refuge and Strength, a very present help in times of trouble. Turn Your ear to me and come quickly to my rescue. Be my Rock of Refuge. Be my Strong Fortress. Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. My eyes hurt, my head hurts, and my heart feels heavy. Lead me to the Rock that is higher than where I am right now. I know You see my affliction and know the anguish of my soul. You allow weeping to remain for a night, but joy comes in the morning. I pray for that joy, for inner peace, for strength - for me, my immediate family, my extended family, my community, and the world. I know that You do give strength to Your people and You do bless Your people with peace. I thank you that I am considered one of "Your people" because I have put my faith and trust in You. I thank You that when I call to You for help, You hear me and rescue me, setting my feet on a spacious place. I trust in You, O God; my times are in Your hands. You hide me in the shelter of Your Presence and show me Your wonderful love. I will be strong and take heart, for my hope - my confident expectation - and my trust are in You, O God. I love You and am grateful for Your love for me! In Your Name I pray. Amen.
Psalm 91: A Declaration of Faith and a Prayer
From March, 2020
Oh Most High God, I am choosing to dwell in Your shelter, in Your secret place. You say that whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest and will remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty, whose power no foe can withstand. I will say of You, Lord, that You are my Refuge and my Fortress; You are my God. On You I lean and rely; in You I confidently trust.
Surely You will deliver us from snares and from the deadly pestilence. You will cover us, as a bird covers and protects its young; under Your wings will we find refuge as we trust in You. Your truth and Your faithfulness are like a shield to us and a protective rampart around us.
Because of this, I shall not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day. (I know the enemy's flaming arrows are meant to distract, discourage, and scare me; I shall not fear them.) I will not fear the pestilence - this great and overwhelming sickness - as it stalks in the darkness, or the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at my side, ten thousand at my right hand...but You hold me by my right hand and I will not be shaken.
My heart breaks for those who are ill and the families of those who have died, but I am still choosing to put my faith and trust in my Almighty God whose power no foe can withstand. I have made You my dwelling place; You, O Lord, are my refuge. Because of this, I am believing that no evil will befall me, no harm will overtake me, and no disaster will come near my tent - my home, which has been established in Your shelter.
I thank you that you have said that You'll command Your angels concerning us, giving them special charge over us to accompany, defend, preserve, and guard us in all our ways. They will lift us up in their hands so we won't even strike a foot against a stone. All of this can be as scary as a lion or a cobra, but will be trampled underfoot.
You have said, "Because she loves me, I will rescue her; I will protect her, for she acknowledge My Name. She will call on Me and I will answer her; I will be with her in trouble, I will deliver her and honor her. With long life will I satisfy her and show her my salvation."
Thank You for protecting, answering, and rescuing me. Thank you for Your deliverance and Your presence. May Your peace that passes all understanding guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. I love You Lord, my King and my God. On You I trust and rely, and in Your Name I pray. Amen.

Psalm 46: A Prayer
Oh God, You are my Refuge and Strength. You are a very present and well-proved help in trouble. Because of this, I will not fear. I will be anxious for nothing; may Your peace transcend the situation and circumstances. You are in my midst and I will not fall. You help me at the early break of day. Oh Lord of Hosts, I thank You that You are with me. Thank You for being my Refuge, Fortress, and High Tower. In my heart I know this, and in the Name of Jesus I require my mind and body to submit to this truth. I will be still and know that You are God. I choose to stop striving and instead press myself into You. You are exalted in not only the heavens, but also on the earth. You are the Almighty God of the Angel Armies, Lord of Hosts. You are with me, with my family. You have been our dwelling place throughout the generations. You are my Refuge, my High Tower, my Stronghold. When anxiety threatens to overwhelm me, I will pause and calmly think about all of this and about Who You are, my Savior and my God.
THE ARMOR OF GOD - EPHESIANS 6:10-18
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
There is a Bible Study by Priscilla Shirer entitled The Armor of God. In this study, we are first encouraged to examine the individual pieces of the Armor of God as described in Ephesians 6:10-18. As we study each piece of armor, there is a place to take notes on how to apply this armor to our own lives. Finally, there is a space in the back of the book where we merge Scripture and our notes into personalized and powerful prayers.
In this section below, I will soon share my prayers pertaining to the Armor of God, influenced by lessons from Priscilla Shirer's Bible study and crafted through my own personal Bible study time of these impactful and power-filled Scriptures.

The Complete Armor of God
BELT OF TRUTH:
Father God, as Jesus prayed, “Sanctify us by Your truth; Your Word is Truth.” Your Word is a light to my path and a lamp to my feet. May I live in the light of Your Word so as to expose the lies of the enemy and live my life wisely. As I keep Your commands in front of me, may I be intentional about keeping them in front of my family and children as well. Keep us all focused on our Bible reading and Scripture memory. May each of us learn to gird our lives in the Truth of Your Word so that we are aware of the schemes of the enemy. Enable us to resist him and his deception. May Your truth support us so we don’t buckle under pressure. We can’t afford to be unprotected and susceptible. We need Your strength to flow into all areas of our lives, bearing witness to the power of Christ. May we willingly submit to Your truth so as to experience true freedom. May we make the conscious decision to abide in You, Jesus, so that we can recalibrate our feelings and emotions. We need Your light to direct our steps so we can clearly detect the lies of the enemy and discern what is right and true according to Your holy standards. I pray all this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS:
Oh Lord, I pray for myself and for my family. Please guard our spiritual hearts, for although they are the spiritual sources of life, they are easily swayed. Enable us, by Your power, to live out the truth and to fix our eyes on Jesus Christ. May we be aware of the enemy’s schemes and intentionally live Your way so that we do not give the devil a foothold in our hearts and lives. Guard our hearts and souls - our emotions, minds, wills, and consciences. Enable us to lead our hearts and set our minds on things of You. I thank You, Jesus, for Your amazing forgiveness and declaration of our innocence because of Your shed blood on the cross. Your righteousness covers us like a breastplate, shielding us from enemy attack. May we recognize this and choose to live in Your righteousness, every moment of every day. May Your Power renew us as we strive to daily put off our old nature and yield ourselves to You. In Your Name, Amen.
SHOES OF PEACE:
Dear Jesus, I thank You for Your promise that Your peace that passes all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. You have said this so that my heart isn’t troubled or afraid. I am aware that thankfulness unleashes peace and so I give You thanks for Who You are and what You have done. Your peace is an anchor for my soul. It brings stability to emotions and enables my life to be consistently grounded in You. From there, Your peace can overflow from my life and have a positive, godly impact on others. We can stand together with our feet firmly planted on the Rock. We are able to face anything that the enemy might bring our way. These peace shoes are go-shoes, not run-away-and-hide-shoes! I can confidently move forward into enemy territory because Jesus is my Peace. He has destroyed the barrier of sin; I can courageously take back anything the enemy has tried to steal from me. Oh Lord, I pray and believe that Your peace that passes understanding, Your Shalom in the midst of the storm, will also guard the hearts and minds of those I love, to Your glory, oh Sovereign God.
SHIELD OF FAITH:
Oh Lord, You have said that if we have faith even as small as a mustard seed, we can move mountains and nothing shall be impossible. Faith is like a muscle - it has to be used, exercised, and applied. Faith requires both trust and action, so I make the choice to put my faith and trust in You. You are the object of my faith. You’ve proven Yourself faithful so many times, both in Scripture and in my life. You always have a plan; You see the end from the beginning. I choose to trust in You because You will not abandon me. Because I have full confidence in You, I take up the shield of faith, with which I can extinguish every flaming dart of the enemy. The enemy has been defeated in Jesus’ Name, but still tries to distract me with those flaming arrows. I extinguish them by faith, refusing to be distracted, and instead I set my mind and heart on things above. Your loyalty, faithfulness, and integrity are unmatched. Your wisdom is infinite; Your ways are sure and true. I trust in You and won’t be shaken. Help me to convey Your faithfulness to the next generation and may they each experience You for themselves You are our Rock! In Jesus; Name, Amen.
HELMET OF SALVATION:
Thank You, Jesus, for the free gift of salvation - for redeeming, reconciling, justifying, and sanctifying me. I thank You for transforming the way I think and act. I’m grateful for Your blood that brings me salvation, covers me, guards my heart, and renews my mind. This salvation, symbolized by a helmet, enables me to live in a way that lines up with who I am in Christ. When the enemy suggests patterns of negative thinking that fall in line with my insecurities, I can be reminded of the helmet of salvation that I wear. Instead of perpetuating these negative and deceptive feelings, I can prepare my mind for action and allow it to be controlled by the Truth of the Spirit. I hereby remind myself of who I am in Christ - thank You Jesus, that You have made me to be the salt of the earth and light of the word. You have firmly established me, rooted me, anointed me, protected me, and sealed me in You. I thank You for this spiritual armor and weapons, that they are mighty to pull down strongholds. I demolish strongholds and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God; I take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Thank You for transforming all of me. I love You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen .
SWORD OF THE SPIRIT:
Holy Spirit, I ask that You pray in me and through me. Jesus, I thank You that Your blood has washed away my sins and that through You, I have access to the Father. I thank You that You are more powerful than any scheme Satan may bring my way. May my eyes and ears be opened spiritually so that I’m aware and alert, able to stand firm against enemy attack. As I take up and put on my holy armor, I pray You go before me in battle. May the truths of Your Word pave the way. May I stand firm in Your power, resisting the devil in the Name of Jesus. I plead the blood of Jesus over my family and me. Lord, I know that You have good plans for us and I know Your purposes will stand. You have raised me up to high places with Christ; I am seated in the heavenly realms. I stand firm with my sword drawn, which is Your Holy Word. In prayer, I take my stand and declare that in the Name of Jesus, no weapon forged against me will prosper, and that I will refute every tongue that accuses me. My eyes and ears and spirit are alert and attending to You, Oh Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
PRAYER:
Father God, I humbly bow before You. I am amazed that the God of this Universe, Creator of all things, will pause to hear my prayers. I don’t claim to understand how prayer works, but I do know that there is power in prayer. Therefore, I bring my prayers and petitions to You, my thankfulness and my questions too. I pray that You will answer the cries of my heart in Your timing and in Your way. I trust in You for the outcome. I know that Your ways are higher than my ways and that Your thoughts are higher than my thoughts. I lay it all before You and ask these things in Your Name, Amen.
